In my Dungeons and Dragons-playing days (yeah, surprise, I am a nerd in many ways), there were two "forms" of "magic"... magic per se (both magic-users and clerical forms ((aka "prayer/worship")) ) and psionics. The effects were much the same, through the mechanisms were different. Psionics drew from the human mind, whereas magic drew from spirits/gods and the natural forces of the universe. But that presents a false dichotomy to those of us who are animist and see the entire universe as a sentient system made up of sentient beings and forces. If everything is conscious, then everything has a mind, and thus psi(onics). Magic is the psi of the Mind(s) of Nature.
